Outreach Project Description

Each Character Studies program spotlights the best work of our nation's regional theatres. We establish for viewers that theatre's live performance is a part of almost every community in America, including their own. We underscore that Olympia Dukakis played Amanda in "Glass Menagerie" at Providence's Trinity Rep, and then direct them to their website where they can find out more about the performance. We make prominent mention in interviewing Paul Newman that he starred in "Our Town" at the Westport Country Playhouse, (above) before it moved to Broadway.

Working with the Theatre Communications Group, which represent 400-plus non-profit theatres across the country, and regional theatres, as well as New York's vital off-Broadway community, we plan to create a strong communications network and, more broadly, advance the cause of theatre in America. We have established working relationships with theatres across the country. In addition, our series will be promoted through public television stations, a radio campaign in key markets, and at public events, including readings and performances.
