Company History

Character Studies Productions produces television programming for and about the arts. Our programming takes the viewer behind the creation of the some of the great theatrical productions. Our mission is to tell the stories of how actors, directors and writers created the masterworks of our time and how these great performances influence us all.

Character Studies started as an idea by writer/journalist/playwright Tony Vellela, who explored the possibilities of bringing it to life with veteran actor, director and playwright Austin Pendleton. They were convinced that it would work, both as a broadcast venture and as a source of vital theatrical information for both general audiences and those more deeply interested in theatre. A new production company with a non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 status was put in place in 2001.
